Arc'teryx has released the Postour Boot at $300, a two-piece system built for the walk between a chairlift and a fireplace. The outer boot carries a Vibram Arctic Grip outsole with 8.5mm lugs, a GORE-TEX overboot with Invisible Fit technology running to the top of the collar, and Coreloft synthetic insulation. The collar cinches shut like a chalk bag, which is a specific and useful piece of engineering for anyone who has had snow find its way down a boot top.
The trick is what comes out of it. A fully removable slipper sits inside the boot, with its own Coreloft insulation and a TPU grip outsole built for indoor floors rather than ice. Pull it free and you have a second, separate piece of footwear, not a liner that falls apart the moment it leaves the shell. Each half does one job well instead of asking one object to do two badly.
Arc'teryx calls the category post-tour recovery, which is a fair description of what happens after a day in ski boots: feet that need support and warmth without being crushed back into another hard shell. The outsole extends around the boot in what the brand calls Endure 360 coverage, aimed at the abrasion a boot picks up getting dragged in and out of a car boot or a gondola.
At $300 for what amounts to two insulated, waterproof pieces of footwear, the arithmetic is straightforward rather than generous. The boot alone would be a reasonable winter purchase. The slipper, worn on its own around a cabin, is the part that makes the price make sense.

The verdict
A two-part boot rather than a gimmicked one. Buy it if you ski; skip it if you just want the logo.
