The North Face Pertex Nuptse Reversible Jacket
This jacket reverses to a second finished face, a trick the $425 Columbia Dually solves instead by zipping apart into two garments.

The North Face has not published a price for the Pertex Nuptse Reversible Jacket, so there is nothing to argue with yet. What there is to look at is the construction, which solves a problem the Nuptse has had since it became a logo rather than a coat: the version everyone wants to wear is not always the version everyone wants to be seen wearing.
One face is the Nuptse people already know, in high-gloss blue and black color-blocking, with the horizontal baffles and the white embroidered chest logo sized for recognition at range. Reverse it and the baffles disappear into smooth, unstitched paneling in matte blue, with the logo switched to tonal embroidery. Same jacket, same warmth, a completely different register. That is the actual update here, not a new colorway.
The insulation is 700-fill recycled goose down, which does the thermal work without the bulk of a conventional winter parka. The outer uses Pertex Quantum, a high-density, lightweight weave built to stop down leaking through the seams, which is the unglamorous engineering that keeps a puffer puffy after a few seasons of use.
The details are the kind you only notice when they are missing: dual-sided center zippers that work from either face, reverse-coil zip hand pockets, and shoulder panels built without prominent seams, so a backpack strap does not chew through the fabric. An adjustable hem and elastic-bound cuffs let the boxy cut be cinched in when the oversized silhouette is not what the day calls for.

| Insulation | 700-fill recycled goose down |

The verdict
A useful reversal rather than a gimmick. Worth tracking once a price appears.
