Gentle Monster Intelligent Eyewear
A frame with no lens display routes every answer through sound, letting Gentle Monster keep the glasses looking like glasses.

Gentle Monster has confirmed its Intelligent Eyewear will launch in December, with pre-orders opening November 12. Price has not been published. The glasses are built on Google's Android XR platform, developed with Google and Samsung, and they carry Gemini rather than a screen.
That absence of a display is the decision that defines the product. Where Samsung's Galaxy XR and Xreal's Aura put imagery in front of the eye, this pairing of Gentle Monster and Warby Parker glasses routes everything through audio. You speak to Gemini, it answers in your ear, and the frame stays a frame rather than a monitor. Meta has already proven a market exists for a camera and a voice assistant worn as eyewear. Google's bet is that a design house's name does more to normalise the category than a tech brand's ever could.
The hardware specifics are modest by wearable standards, which is the point. The frame pairs with Android and iOS, runs through a dedicated app, and supports real-time translation, navigation, and contextual AI assistance alongside visual information capture, all hands-free. Battery life is rated at up to 9 hours per charge, with a case supplying up to 7 additional full charges, numbers that suggest all-day use rather than a gadget you babysit at a desk.
Gentle Monster has paired the launch with a short film directed by Jonathan Glazer and starring Joaquin Phoenix, due in full by mid-November. A second frame design, described by the brand as a more restrained, square-profiled version, has already been shown, with further styles promised through the season. That a fashion label is choosing the imagery and the silhouette, while Google supplies the assistant underneath, is the whole premise of the collaboration.

The verdict
An audio-first wager that a frame can carry an AI assistant better than a screen can. The idea earns attention; the price will decide whether it earns a pre-order.
