Acer Predator Atlas 8 Gaming Handheld

The Predator Atlas 8, Intel Arc G3 Extreme variant, arrives at Best Buy on November 1st for $1,299.99. It is the first Predator or Nitro handheld Acer has officially launched in the US, after months of devices announced but never sold there.

The specification is the case for the price. Arc B390 graphics with 12 Xe3 GPU cores are paired with 24GB of LPDDR5x RAM, enough headroom that the device is unlikely to feel undersized a year from now. The 8-inch display runs at 120Hz, dual-mode triggers and TMR joysticks handle input, and the unit works handheld or docked. It runs Windows 11, which means Xbox Game Pass and the full library that implies, rather than a locked storefront.

That price matches the Xbox Ally X20 exactly, which is the comparison Acer wants you to make. Windows handhelds at this tier have converged on a number, and $1,299.99 is now simply what admission costs. Preorders at Best Buy sold out before launch, which says more about pent-up demand for Predator hardware in the US than about any scarcity Acer engineered.

What is missing from the public specification is battery life and weight, both of which matter more on a handheld than on a desktop, and both of which Acer has not yet published. Buying before that information exists is buying on reputation and on the GPU figures alone.
