Audi Concept C

Audi showed the Concept C at the Munich Motor Show on 4 September 2025: a two-door targa with a retractable hardtop, titanium-coloured paint, 500 bhp, 500 Nm, and a six-speed manual gearbox. The design language is called radical simplicity and the reference point is the 1936 Auto Union Type C.

The manual is the detail that makes this worth your time. Concept cars are where a company says what it would like to be, and almost every concept of the last decade has said the same thing, which is that it would like to be a screen. Audi has put three pedals in one and invited photographers.

It is reported to be closely linked to a two-seat electric sports car expected in 2027, possibly a new TT, which would of course have no gearbox at all. Audi's own site carries the standard disclaimer that this is a concept vehicle and is not available as a production vehicle, and no production version has been confirmed.

So the gearbox is almost certainly not coming. It was still the most interesting thing anyone put on a stand that week, and it tells you exactly what Audi thinks its customers miss.
