Smart #2 Couture Edition
A two-door city car engineered to park nose-in, with a 6.9-meter turning circle and 290 kilometers of WLTP range.

Smart has not published a price for the #2, and that is worth saying plainly rather than skipping past. What it has published is a footprint of 2.74 metres, a turning circle of 6.9 metres, and a WLTP range of 290 km. Those three numbers are the whole argument for the car.
The #2 sits on Smart's Electric Compact Architecture, with Mercedes-Benz handling design and Geely overseeing engineering, an arrangement running since 2019 that has already produced the #1, #3 and #5. Each successor has grown larger. The #2 is Smart's attempt to walk that back toward the brand's original brief: a two-door city car small enough to park nose-in, built around a bench-style front seat and an S-shaped cockpit designed to keep passenger space honest despite the length.
The Couture Edition is the version worth noting specifically. It is limited to 999 units in Europe and 999 in China, finished in Atelier White Matte with a Platinum Gold roof, a scheme carried over from the Concept #02. The equipment list is where the premium gets spent: heated seats, a glass roof, and a seven-speaker Sennheiser sound system, a lot of audio hardware for a cabin this size.
A split rear tailgate is the kind of detail that only matters once a year, when you are trying to fit something awkward into a two-seater, and it is the sort of practicality that separates a city car with ambition from a toy. Whether any of this justifies an unannounced price is impossible to say yet. What is clear is that Smart is betting the #2 can out-practical the Citroen Ami and its quadricycle rivals without giving up real crash structure or real range.

The verdict
A small car with real numbers behind it and a maker still unwilling to say what it costs.
